How to Crack "The CLAT Exam"

How to crack the CLAT exam?

There are 5 sections that are asked in CLAT entrance
      1        Law – 50qs
      2        General Awareness – 50qs
      3        English – 40qs
      4        General Aptitude – 40qs
      5        Maths – 20qs

We at Maansarovar Law Centre believe in a very realistic approach towards clearing the CLAT entrance and you must read the entire article thoroughly and follow the approach mentioned below with utmost honesty to come in top 100 rankers

Now the first thing we need to see is that two different approaches must be followed
A.      Comprehensive Approach
B.      Subject wise Approach

     A.      COMPREHENSIVE APPROACH: Below mentioned points must be incorporated in our everyday approach towards the CLAT preparation
    1.      Practicing Previous years is a must -  You must practice to 7-8yrs previous year papers of CLAT and AILET to get a fair idea of the level of exam.
    2.      Maintaining a register of the difficult question – Now here lies the secret to making your unique question bank. You have to maintain 5 subject wise registers each namely maths difficult questions, reasoning difficult questions, law difficult questions, etc. Now suppose you solved a previous year paper or a mock test and you were unable to solve some questions of a topic that you have already studied or found a new question or a good question then note it down in that respective subject register
For eg. Suppose you are through with a maths topic – Profit and Loss yet you come across a new/difficult/good question of this topic then make a note of it in your register instead of thinking that you will remember how to solve it. By doing this you will create a very good question bank all compiled in one register. Next time before any mock or actual exam just practice profit and loss from your notes and this register…. I guarantee u, your performance will improve and you will be able to solve the question that most people won't be able to do
Repeat this till your exam and for all 5 subject…. I assure you your dream college!
     3.   For any subject, NEVER refer to more than two books - Two books are sufficient for each topic along with your class notes and your self created unique question bank(as mentioned above). Never ever refer to 3-4 books… no matter whatever anyone says. Once you finish solving these books, keep revising them only. Don’t think that you will get more material from more books. That leads to only confusion and frustration. Stick to 2 books for each subject.
     4.  Always begin studying with a planned Schedule in hand- Before you start studying each day, set a target.
For eq. 10th January 2019 – Maths – Profit and Loss
                                                 Law – Murder
                                                 English – Prepositions
Set a practical weekly target every Sunday night and achieve it. It will bring utmost joy once you will achieve your target. Also if you manage to achieve your target before time and you still have some hours left in that day then do not begin studying more…. That extra time is for leisure… watch a movie or relax… do whatever you like and enjoy it a reward for hard work :)
     5.   Study alone… don’t indulge in group studies. Seek the help of your friends only in case of need. Keep quiet about your preparation. Let your rank speak for your hard work.
     6.   Give your maximum time in weak areas and have a realistic approach. Giving time to things like static GK will take away your seat coz that area is not at all scoring but giving time to Maths, reasoning, law, polity, English vocabulary etc. will shoot up your score like a rocket.
     7.  MOCK Test is a must. You may study for 5years and not get selected at all and study for 6months with weekly mocks and get Rank-1. The MOCK test helps us in understanding our weak areas and enhance our speed. Always attempt mock test in classrooms along with other students and carrying it home is absolutely futile. However, the most important thing to do after solving the mock test is working on your errors
For eg. – Suppose you scored 140/200 in a mock test. Now you must identify the questions that you got wrong. Suppose you got 5questions in Vocabulary wrong then write down these questions along with correct answers in your English Difficult Questions Register (as mentioned above) and so on for remaining questions. This way you will know the correct way to solve 60 more questions. Now next time if ever you get any of these questions in the future test, you will know the correct solution.
I assure you your better performance with each mock test.
NOTE: Avoid making a note of questions from the topics that you haven’t studied yet.

8.      Join a good coaching center only after taking trial classes. It helps us in giving regularity to our preparation and also their methods of teaching and approach is essential for success, however, hard work from your end is equally required. You cannot depend blindly on coaching as same stuff is taught to hundreds of more students, so at least to surpass them you need to put in your own efforts
9.      Selection should never be your aim. Your aim should be Rank-1. Getting Rank 1 is all about consistency, good strategy, and hard work and you have got it all. Whenever you don’t feel like studying… think about the moment when your result will be announced and how you want to see rank 1 against your name. Work hard and make your parents proud
    10.  Do not miss a single class or mock test. Consistency is the key to success

Subject Wise preparation:

MATHS: 20qs

1.      Study Material – (i) R.S. Aggarwal ( Quantitative Abilities)
                                     (ii) M.Tyra ( Magical Maths)
                                     (iii) Class Material
(iv) Your self created a unique question bank
2.      Maths is one of the most scoring topics and scoring 100% in this area is possible however we need to have a realistic approach. We need to realize that there may be a question or two which is way too difficult or beyond the expected syllabus so our real aim should be scoring 90%-95% in this area i.e. 18 or 19 / 20 is a very good score.
3.      If your doing self-preparation then please realize that you may some time you may come across an extremely lengthy or difficult question. Our aim should be managing 90-95% questions of every topic and if we come across such impossible questions then try asking your teachers or friends for the solution. If still, you feel that it is a way to difficult and cannot be solved using concepts and in time then avoid such questions from your preparation. We don’t have to prepare for freak questions.
4.      If you have joined coaching somewhere then do not start studying any topic on your own. Let your mentor finish the topic in the class and then start practicing from the reference books. Otherwise, you may end us wasting time trying to make your own methods.
5.      Practice is the only key for maths. Just by glancing at the questions won't help. Even if you are sure that you can solve a particular question, make sure to solve it and get the correct answer
6.      Remember to maintain your register for difficult questions and building your self created unique question bank
7.      Always remember that maths asked in CLAT is all about concepts and common sense… so if you find yourself learning formulas for maths that means you are doing something wrong. Enjoy solving maths using only concepts and common sense
8.      In short – class notes, reference books, previous year questions, and unique question bank is absolutely sufficient for maths along with practice.

Reasoning: 40qs

1.      Study Material – (i) R.S. Aggarwal ( Reasoning)
                                     (ii) Sijwali ( Arihant Publication)
                                     (iii) Class Material
(iv) Your self created a unique question bank
2.      The reasoning is the most scoring area and you must aim for 40/40 in this area. Every question is possible to be solved and you must aim at scoring 100% in this area.
3.      Practice is the key to score 100% in reasoning so give it your time and effort.
4.      There is no need for a single formula in reasoning. It is all about concepts and common sense so if ur learning any formulas then you are doing something wrong.
5.      Analyze the topic with importance for the exam and give it time accordingly. For example, Puzzles are extremely important for the exam and you can get up to 15qs from puzzles so must put in extra effort for this topic
6.      Study each topic in such a manner that after you are done with it, you must be sure that no matter whatever comes from a particular topic, you will be able to crack it
7.      Maintain your self created unique question bank. Nothing works like it.
8.      If you have joined coaching somewhere then do not start studying any topic on your own. Let your mentor finish the topic in the class and then start practicing from the reference books. Otherwise, you may end us wasting time trying to make your own methods.

English – 40qs

1.      Study Material – Previous Year papers and Mock test, S.P.Bakshi, A.P.Bhardwaj, Class notes.
2.      This is the most neglected area however it is extremely scoring if efforts are made in the right direction.
3.      Include learning vocabulary in your daily routine. You cannot be learning 1000words in one week. So daily make a target of 20-25 words, 20 idioms and so on.
4.      Every day before you start learning vocabulary, make sure to revise what you learned the previous day.
5.      Solving more and more of mocks will really improve your score.
6.      Suppose you solved a mock test and in the English section, you scored 25/40 then look at those 15 questions. Now suppose you got 5 synonyms, 5 fill in the blanks and 5 other questions wrong. Now maintain a register where u must write down all the question which you either got wrong or found difficult. In this take down these 15ques along with the answer. Repeat this, every time you take a mock or come across a good question. This way you will have a unique question bank and all your difficult questions will be compiled in the same place. Revise from this register every time you prepare for mocks next time and you will see a gradual rise in your score.

General Awareness: 50qs

The General Awareness section can be divided into two parts-
1.      Current Affairs
2.      Static GK

·         For Current Affairs, the best approach to be followed is reading the newspaper regularly (any newspaper can be chosen- The Hindu, The Hindustan Times, etc)  and following a news channel.
·         From these sources, note down 10-15 points every day that you feel are important from exam point of view
Note- One should avoid irrelevant data.
For example- A news like Mr. X has been appointed the new RBI Governor is a relevant one whereas a piece of news stating that a train of length 650 m have been started from Kerala to Karnataka is irrelevant news.
·         While preparing for the exam, you must not refer to more than two sources of news. Your self created daily pointers along with your coaching notes are sufficient.

Static GK:
·         For the part of Static GK, questions are mainly asked from Indian Polity, History, Geography, Economics, and Science.
·         Out of all these subjects, Polity remains the most important. It covers around 50-70% of the static GK part. So for this reason, the maximum effort has to be put in this subject.
·          The syllabus of the remaining subjects is too vast to be covered and also the weight of their questions is low. So, excessive time should not be spent on reading these subjects. Following the study material provided by your coaching center along with questions in the mock test should be sufficient.
·         It is observed that most of the static GK questions asked in the exam are related to the current news. For example, a piece of news stating that a new dam has been constructed on the river Ganga will make up a question from static GK point of view as- Where does the river Ganga originates from?
Therefore, if one reads newspaper thoroughly and regularly, then both the static and current GK can be covered.

Legal Aptitude – 50ques

1.Study Material – Class notes, Handouts, Test Series and Question Banks made by Sonal Mam - Maansarovar Law Centre
      2.      This section is extremely scoring and you can get 50/50 in this section
      3.      You need to be through with the LAW syllabus and irrelevant legal subjects should not be studied
      4.      Just Attend Sonal Mam’s classes regularly if you are a student of MLC and attend all the subject-wise mock tests. Once a subject is over in class, solve each and every question of the question bank provided to you. Do not hunt for any other study material as question banks are exhaustive.
      5.      If you are self-preparing, go through some previous year question papers to get a fair idea of areas you need to cover. Majority of the questions comes four area i.e., Contract, Crimes, Constitution and Torts along with some Miscellaneous Topics.
      6.      Speed is of the essence as law questions are very long so you may know all the answers but miss out some questions due to lack of time. Therefore, the mock test is a must because it enhances our speed.

The above-mentioned approach is extremely important if you wish to get selected in the law college of your choice and you can easily get Rank – 1 if you follow it with honesty and consistency. We at Maansarovar Law Centre wish you the best of luck and assure that we are here for you at every step. May God bless you the will power and strength to maintain consistency in your journey.
