WHAT IS CLAT?
- CLAT is a centralized admission test to 17 National Law Universities. With the exception being NLU Delhi which admits on the basis of AILET score.
- Apart from 17 national universities, many private colleges accept CLAT score like the famous ones being Manipal, Nirma, Galgotias Etc.
WHEN IS CLAT HELD?
- The CLAT exam is usually held in the month of May.
- The registrations begin online in January.
- The exam in 2017 is said to be tentatively scheduled in the first week of may.
PATTERN OF THE EXAM
- CLAT is a computer-based objective paper for the undergraduate section for a total of 200 marks which consists of five subjects that are :
1) English
2) Logical Reasoning
3) Elementary Math
4) Legal Aptitude
5) Legal Reasoning
6) General Knowledge
The total time given for this exam is two hours.
ABC-CUBE
ABC cube stands for 'Any Body Can Crack CLAT'
- The CLAT Exam is open to people of all streams.
- Anybody can apply for the exam by scoring a minimum of 45% in 12th std exams.
- It usually takes 2-3 months to prepare well for the exam.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR CLAT?
- English
The English section tests the candidate's proficiency in English based on comprehension passages and basic grammar.
- Mathematics
This section will test candidates knowledge on elementary mathematics, i.e. maths taught up to Class X
_ Legal Aptitude & Legal Reasoning
This section tests the candidate's interest towards:
> study of law,
> research aptitude and
> problem-solving ability.
Questions will be framed with the help of legal propositions (described in the paper) and a set of facts to which the said proposition has to be applied.
- General Knowledge
General Knowledge is an important aspect of CLAT as the questions in this came from current affairs of the last 6-8 months.
_ Logical Reasoning
The purpose of the logical reasoning section is to test the candidate's ability to find the patterns, logical links and rectify illogical argument.

- The closing ranks change every year depending on the difficulty level of the exam that particular year.
- In 2015 the difficulty level of the paper was said to be high and therefore the cutoffs were low however for the year 2016 the scenario was compactly changed as the difficulty level of the paper was moderate
- There are 2252 seats up for grabs.
